Protect my identity

Protect your online accounts with hardware-based two-factor authentication

Hackers never stop devising new ways to steal usernames and passwords. If you are a consumer or an everyday computer user, Intel® Identity Protection Technology provides one of the strongest techniques for avoiding the threat of identity theft by linking your physical PC to each online account that you use. It’s like adding a second lock to your account, where your PC is the “key”. You will still log in with your username and password, which are the first set of “keys”, but the site will also validate the identity of the PC that is logging in, through embedded hardware tokens.

If you are away from your PC that is equipped with Intel® IPT, you can still gain access to your online accounts. However, extra security measures will be used to confirm your identity. The site will either ask you additional security questions, or send your cell phone a text message in order to confirm your identity.

This feature is available on new PCs that have been shipping since 2010 and feature select 2nd generation Intel® Core™ processors. If you have a PC that is equipped with Intel IPT, all you need are two simple steps to guard against illicit access:

VIP Access

Example of Symantec’s VIP client on an IPT PC when you visit a participating site for the first time.

  1. Make sure that you have all the latest software installed, available for free download here.
  2. Go through the opt-in process to link your PC to your online account on sites that offer such protection.

These sites may vary on how they handle the opt-in process. Some may send you a one-time code that will recognize your PC in future transactions. Others may ask you to log into your account and click on an “accept” button as seen in the example to the right. Once the initial set-up is complete, you will log into your account hassle-free as you have in the past, and a simple pop-up or a completely behind-the scenes process will verify your identity and authenticate your PC.

Enhance your security and guard against illicit access to your data and personal information with Intel IPT.
